JMV Child Care Foundation, an NGO for poor children’s education, embarked on this journey of JMV in 2nd January 2005 in Jharkhand. Many liked the idea of a safe child-centric learning space. Then we decided to scale it up. It thrills us that the organization has grown to what it is today and directly benefitting over 10,00,000 children and their families every year, through over five welfare programs on education, healthcare, livelihood and women empowerment and nutrition programs across 18 states of India affected the lives of innumerable people. It enables them to learn better and grow into more confident and self-assured individuals, who are aware of their talents and potential, and are equipped to succeed. Deep engagement with marginalized communities over the years has generated a plethora of unique insights, transformation models and new perspectives about maximizing the learning and development of children and their families, despite their limited socio-economic conditions. Education is the most powerful catalyst for social transformation. But children’s education cannot be done in isolation. A child must go to school. A child will go to school only if the family, particularly the mother, is assured of healthcare and empowered. Moreover, when an elder sibling is relevantly skilled to be employable and begins earning. And the journey of empowerment continues beyond the present generation. Our approach is unique in that we empower not just children but also those around them-parents, teachers and community members, who play a key role in shaping their lives and future.
